Mormon Beliefs: Fast Offerings

Once a month members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) fast for two meals. They then donate the money those meals would have cost to the needs of the church. Fast Offering funds are used, at the Bishop’s discretion to help the poor and needy. The funds are used first at the local level. If there isn’t a need within the ward–a local congregation– then the money goes to what is known as the stake–a larger geographical membership area, akin to a diocese in Catholicism. If there are funds left after the needs are met in the Stake, the money then goes to the Presiding Bishop of the Church. From there, the funds are used  in a sacred manner wherever in the world they are needed. From a personal perspective, I’m grateful for the opportunity to pay a fast offering. Mormons believe first and foremost in God the Eternal Father and in his Son Jesus Christ. All mormon beliefs and doctrines are based on the teaching of Jesus Christ as taught to us in the Holy Bible and other sacred books, and focus on his Atonement for us. All other teachings are based upon this. The first prophet of the Mormon Church (officially know as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or LDS Church was Joseph Smith.
